Criminal conviction and sentencing statistics: 2011 calendar year - tables

Five tables are available for selection. The Prosecuted charges by ANZSOC table provides statistics for the number of charges laid in criminal courts in each calendar year, while the other four provide information on the number of people prosecuted (and the outcome of this prosecution) in the New Zealand court system for each calendar year.

Criminal conviction and sentencing tables

• Prosecuted charges by ANZSOC 
  Statistics for 1980 onwards about the number of charges prosecuted in the New Zealand court system during a calendar year. Information available includes the court location, type of offence, and outcome of the charge.
• Prosecuted people by ANZSOC
  Statistics for 1980 onwards about people prosecuted in criminal courts during a calendar year. Information available includes the court location, and outcome of a person's most serious prosecution by offence category.
• Convicted offenders by ANZSOC
  Statistics for 1980 onwards about people whose convictions were finalised in criminal courts during a calendar year. Information available includes offender age, gender, and ethnicity; court location; type of sentence; and the sentence given for the most serious offence category.
• Adult multiple-offence type prosecution
  Statistics for 1980 onwards about people prosecuted for multiple offences in criminal courts during a calendar year. Information is available on court location, and the outcome of a person's most serious prosecution for every offence category.
• Adult multiple-offence type convicted offenders
  Statistics for 2000 onwards about people who were sentenced for multiple offences in the criminal courts during a calendar year. Information is available on offender age, gender, and ethnicity; court location; and the most serious sentences given for each offence category.

Note that the multiple-offence type tables use a different counting rule to the other tables. See Counting people for more details.
