The 2011 Census

Tuesday, 8 March 2011 is census day in New Zealand, when every adult and child in the country will be counted in the five-yearly Census of Population and Dwellings.

Statistics New Zealand is offering a 2011 Census education resource for primary, intermediate and secondary schools to use during the first term and throughout the rest of the year.

Teachers and resource writers have put together cross-curriculum activities that are easily printed. The activities incorporate the essential skills of gathering, sorting, interpreting, and presenting information. Activities are available in both English and te reo Māori.

The 2011 Census education resource has themes of special interest to students, including topics on population pyramids, changing employment, cultural diversity, planning for the future, groups and communities, and the census process.
