Rationale

The classification of sheep breeds was developed for use by Business Statistics in the Agricultural Production Survey. The purpose of the classification is to allow for analysis of changes in the number and variety of livestock in New Zealand through the collection of data on pure and crossbred sheep.

Classification of sheep breeds

Sheep breeds is a hierarchical classification with three levels. Level 1 of the classification has 6 categories, level 2 has 44 categories while level three has 46 categories.
