At 30 June 2008 compared with 2007:
- Sheep numbers fell to 33.9 million, down 12 percent.
- Dairy cattle numbers reached 5.6 million, up 6 percent.
- Beef cattle numbers fell to 4.1 million, down 6 percent.
- Deer numbers fell to 1.2 million, down from 1.4 million.
During the year ended 30 June 2008:
- 67,000 hectares of barley were harvested, up 30 percent from 2007.
