In January 2012 compared with December 2011:
- Food prices showed no overall change.
- Fruit and vegetable prices rose 3.6 percent, reflecting seasonally higher prices for lettuce, mandarins, and strawberries, among others.
- Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices rose 0.2 percent.
- Grocery food prices fell 0.2 percent.
- Non-alcoholic beverage prices fell 0.9 percent.
- Meat, poultry, and fish prices fell 1.8 percent, influenced by more discounting for chicken pieces in January than in December.
From January 2011 to January 2012:
- Food prices increased 1.0 percent.
- Pumpkin prices increased 107 percent. The higher-than-usual price reflected a shortage in the supply of pumpkins to the domestic market.
